Candide ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
1. Information we collect
We collect the following information when you use Candide:
- Account information — your name and email address when you sign in with Apple or Google.
- Study content — the decks, flashcards, and notes you create or upload.
- Usage data — study sessions, card review results, and streak data used to power spaced repetition and statistics.
- Onboarding preferences — your school, field of study, daily goal, and exam date, used to personalise your experience.
- Subscription status — your current plan (Free or Pro), managed via RevenueCat.
- Device data — device type and iOS version, collected automatically by Supabase for security and debugging purposes.
2. How we use your information
- To provide and improve the Candide service.
- To schedule spaced-repetition reviews and personalise study sessions.
- To manage your subscription and process purchases via Apple's in-app purchase system.
- To send daily study reminders, if you opt in.
- To respond to support requests.
3. Data storage and security
Your data is stored on Supabase servers with row-level security enabled, meaning only your account can access your content. All data is encrypted in transit using TLS. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
4. Third-party services
Candide uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase — database and authentication (supabase.com)
- RevenueCat — subscription management (revenuecat.com)
- Anthropic — AI flashcard generation via Claude API (anthropic.com)
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, in-app purchases, push notifications
Each service has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.
5. Camera and photo library
Candide requests access to your camera and photo library solely to allow you to scan or import study materials (notes, slides, textbook pages). Images are processed by our AI to generate flashcards and are not stored beyond what is necessary to complete that task.
6. Microphone
Candide may request microphone access to allow you to import audio recordings as a source for flashcard generation. Audio is processed for transcription purposes only and is not stored after processing.
7. Push notifications
With your permission, Candide sends daily study reminders. You can enable or disable these at any time from your Profile settings or your device's notification settings.
8. Data retention and deletion
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from the Profile tab in the app. Deletion is irreversible.
9. Children's privacy
Candide is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
