The Candide Method.
Four steps to turn a course into lasting memories: AI-generated flashcards, active recall and spaced repetition. Less rereading, more remembering.
Capture
Photograph your notes, import a PDF, paste text, or drop in a recording. Whatever form your course came in.
Generate
The AI reads the material and writes question-and-answer cards that actually test recall — not trivia.
Recall
Short daily sessions sized to your goal. Rate each card honestly and FSRS handles the calendar.
Sprint
Add an exam date and Candide reweights everything toward your weakest decks as the day approaches.
Why rereading your notes isn't enough
Rereading feels like mastery: everything looks familiar. But recognising information is not the same as being able to retrieve it on exam day. And without retrieval, memories fade fast — that's what the forgetting curve describes.
The Candide Method is built on two of the best-established principles in learning science: active recall and spaced repetition.
Active recall: test yourself instead of rereading
Each flashcard asks you a question and makes you pull the answer from memory before you flip it. That retrieval effort is exactly what strengthens the memory. It's why Candide writes questions that ask you to understand and explain, not just recognise a keyword.
Spaced repetition: review at the right moment
Review a card too early and you waste time; too late and you have to relearn it. After each card you rate it Again, Hard or Got it. The FSRS 4.5 algorithm — the modern scheduler Anki users rely on too — then predicts the last moment you'll still remember it, and schedules the review for that day.
The result: cards you know drift further and further apart, and your time goes to what's still giving you trouble.
A daily target, not a pile of cards
The Candide Method doesn't leave you alone with hundreds of cards. The app builds a daily target around your level, your routine and your exam date, then holds you to it. A few minutes a day beats an all-nighter before the exam.
- Streaks and retention so you can see your progress over 14 days.
- Exam sprint mode to refocus your reviews as the day approaches.
- Five languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian and German.
- Anki export (.apkg) with Pro: your cards stay yours.
Paper flashcards, Anki or Candide?
Paper flashcards make you practise recall, but deciding what to review and when is up to you. Anki schedules brilliantly, but you have to write every card yourself. Candide does both: the AI writes the flashcards from your course, and FSRS decides the schedule.
